The US government doesn’t guarantee that ANY food is safe. Its very instructive to look at GMOs in the context of how all our food plants came into being. I recommend “mendel in the kitchen” by Nina Federoff.
Lester ~ Thanks for stopping by to make a comment on the crucial issue of labeling any food products that may contain ge/gmo ingredients. As American citizens, we have a fundamental right to know what’s in our food. And as consumers, who read labels, we would then have a choice of whether or not, we choose to buy/eat foods containing GE/GMO ingredients.
Besides being an organic foods advocate, I’m also an organic gardener with an excellent understanding of hybridization as nature has designed it to succeed and the value of having a diverse, vigorous, gene pool in our plants and animals. GE/GMO food products, both plants and animals, are far from natural….and would never occur ‘naturally’ on a farm, out in the pasture, or in our gardens.
There is increasing reason for concern about consuming these laboratory created, patented, experiments. Many news agencies have articles on the recent groundbreaking French study that links lifetime consumption of Monsanto’s GMO corn in rats to massive breast tumors in the females and direct organ failure. As a result, Russia’s premiere consumers’ rights organization has suspended both the importation and use of Monsanto’s GMO corn within that nation’s borders.
This policy may soon be echoed by other nations, urged on by France to ban Monsanto’s GMOs due to serious health ramifications. France, somewhat of a consumer health watchdog, as been instrumental in alerting the world to the dangers of GMOs, pesticide contamination, and Monsanto’s overall corruption. The French government is seeking to ban crop dusters, aiming to reduce the amount of obesity-linked pesticides within the food supply.
